Backing up your TPT Store Products using the FREE Tool from Bearwood Labs

Many of you may have heard about the potential malware issues at TPT (Teachers Pay Teachers). If selling on TPT significantly affects your income, this can be alarming. However, the good news is that you have the power to take actionable steps to protect your resources. It's always wise to backup your product files, listing descriptions, thumbnail and preview images, etc.

Fortunately, the organization Bearwood Labs has made it extremely simple to begin backing up your content. First, visit this Bearwood Lab link. The landing page will look like this. You will need to type in your store URL and email address to get started.

After you click "go" to submit the initial form, a new webpage will open. It will have several categories that will be automatically visible: product ID number, the name of the product, the listing price, the discount price (for bundles), number of total sales, posting date, and an action (edit/download).

If you'd like, you can also click on the other "show/hide fields" boxes to select other information categories, such as bundle listings that are associated with the product, the cover image, image previews, subjects, stats, preview, and description.

You can play around with these categories to get as much or as little information as you need. For example, when I clicked the "description" button, I could read the text that is below my product listing on TPT.

If you want to download your product info to a CSV file that opens in Excel or Google Sheets, just click the "Export to CSV" link in the upper right corner of the webpage. Make sure that you have selected any of the categories that you would like to be included in the spreadsheet data.

Here's a photo of the CSV file that opened in Excel on my computer after I clicked "export to CSV."

A few tips and tricks to help you get started:

  • You must be logged into your TPT account to download the files. This prevents other sellers from stealing your thumbnails, files, etc.
  • If you click the "download" button, the file from your resource will automatically download if it is a PDF. However, you MUST be logged into your TPT account for this to work. (I am still working on figuring out how to download Google Slides, so I will update this blog post if I find new information about that.)
  • You can download the preview images and thumbnails. This makes it super easy for a VA (virtual assistant) to help you with the process of migrating your files to other seller websites, such as Etsy or Shopify.

Have you experimented with this Bearwood Labs product? What other advice would you give? Please leave a comment below with any other tips and tricks for newbies (like me) to get started.
